Our System
Continuous Flow Unit
A continuous flow vermicomposting unit is designed to create an ideal, undisturbed habitat for worms while allowing for regular harvesting of finished castings. Organic compost is added to the top of the bin, where worms naturally feed and process material near the surface. As they consume and move upward toward fresh food, rich worm castings accumulate below. This layered system mimics natural soil processes, keeping the worm community active, comfortable, and continuously producing nutrient-dense castings.
Harvesting occurs gently from the bottom of the unit using a blade drawn across the lower few inches, removing only finished castings while leaving the worms, eggs, and developing ecosystem above intact. The castings fall through a grate and are collected for sifting and use, allowing weekly harvests without disturbing the living biology inside. This method ensures a consistent supply of high-quality, microbially active worm castings while supporting a thriving worm population and stable vermiculture system.
Our Farm - the Rolling R Farm & Ranch
The Colorado Worm Farm is nestled inside the barns at Rolling R Farm & Ranch in Conifer, Colorado — a family-run homestead rooted in hands-on learning, time-honored techniques, and meaningful connection through animals and land stewardship. The idea for the worm farm grew from Bret Roller’s deep passion for regenerative agriculture and his commitment to caring for the soil as the foundation of a healthy farm.
While searching for a natural way to restore tired pasturelands without relying on chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides, Bret discovered the power of vermicomposting — the process of using worms and living soil biology to rebuild fertility from the ground up. What began as a solution for the farm quickly became a mission: to share this living soil approach with others, helping families, gardeners, and growers naturally revitalize their soils, gardens, and landscapes.
